Panoramic Cycling
An Ideal Route for Hill-Climb Training
Bring your bicycle aboard the train! Take the Joshin Dentetsu Cycle Train to Shimonita Station, then enjoy a scenic ride through the mountains of western Gunma on your way to Kozu Farm.
Along the route, you can enjoy views of Mt. Arafune and the surrounding mountains, small villages scattered throughout the countryside, and the World Heritage Site Arafune Cold Storage. On the way back, you can also stop for a relaxing hot spring bath.

The round-trip cycling route from Shimonita Station to Kozu Farm, Japan’s first Western-style ranch, covers approximately 70 km.
The route follows the old National Route 254 and offers plenty to see along the way, including small mountain villages, Arafune Lake, Mt. Ozawa—sometimes called the “Matterhorn of Western Gunma”—Mt. Arafune, historic sites associated with the Shimonita War, and the Arafune-no-Yu day-use hot spring.
With its long climbs and significant elevation changes, this route is also ideal for hill-climb training. If you still have energy after reaching Kozu Farm, continue climbing toward the prefectural border, where spectacular panoramic views await.
